India and Australia on Thursday discussed joint cooperation on cyber security threats. Both the countries again agreed to work together in the field of digital economy and cyber security during this period. Along with this, laws and strategies related to cyber security were shared among themselves.
This was the first meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Cyber Security Cooperation between India and Australia. During this virtual meeting, the complex and emerging technologies identified under the Framework Arrangement on Cyber and Cyber Enabled Important Technology Cooperation were also discussed. The two countries recognized that ensuring the security of critical infrastructure as well as 5G technology and Internet-connected equipment was of utmost importance.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both the countries acknowledged in the meeting that the bilateral relations have grown rapidly after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian PM Scott Morrison during the Leaders Virtual Summit on June 4 last year.
During the JWG meeting, the Indian delegation was led by Paulomi Tripathi, Director (Oceania), Ministry of External Affairs, while the Australian contingent was headed by Rachel James.
